Getting The Right SHTF Gear Should Only Help You And Your Family

The brown stuff hitting circular cooling blades is a good visual, however, to put it into context; you should listen to one of the preppers. These are called that because they value the concept of preparing for what they consider to be the worst case scenario, such as a flood, enemy invasion, power outage and, the worst yet, zombies. The accumulation of SHTF gear will assist you in the surviving of these occurrences.

Several of the things you will not have available after whatever happens is your home. That is one of the things you will have to plan, carefully. Many preppers have constructed or modified their current homes to be their compound after the danger comes. They incorporate all of the many things they will need into this.

Since anything disastrous enough to get you out of your house is serious, the need to find shelter is just as serious. A bug out or SHTF bag has enough stuff to last about three days. The occurrences that are being talked about will last longer than that. Nothing can be left as an afterthought.

The amount, type, size and configuration of your specific survival gear will depend, largely, on the number of people in your party. You do have to deal with a shelter and it should be on high ground. It will help immensely if it is secured against the weather and possible breaches.

You will be in the position of being self sufficient. This means power should be provided by a generator or, better still, nothing electric and heat provided by fireplace or pit. A few tools will ensure that all repairs needed can be accomplished.

You will not be able to trust public transportation if it is even running. The preppers you have talked to or heard about will have an old, non computer assisted vehicle such as a Land Rover or truck, possibly even a travel home. Repair manuals for whatever you have are critical. It does not help to have the largest vehicle in the now reduced neighborhood if it breaks down before you get back on track.

One of the things that preppers spend a great deal of time dealing with is security. You should gather whatever you are comfortable with, such as knives and consider a rifle and or pistol. Ammunition can be gathered as available, before anything serious actually happens, because, afterward, forget it. Having a reloading set will also keep you in ammo for the time being.

Remember, to survive a holocaust of problems, a disaster or invaders of the human variety, the best thing to have handy is your common sense. Surviving for a day or two can seem like a camping trip but enduring for more than a month takes careful planning, knowing what is needed and gathering it together for your whole group. The things you need for when the SHTF, for real, must be secured, stored, clean and ready when needed.
