Visitors to Florida and area residents have endless opportunities for family friendly entertainment. People flock to the Sunshine State to enjoy the pleasant climate that allows for fun in the sun throughout the year. The New Tampa attractions, and others in outlying areas, offer people of all age groups a variety of ways to enjoy their leisure time.

Anyone who enjoys outdoor recreation will find plenty to keep them occupied at Flatwoods Wilderness Park located in the New Tampa neighborhood. The park belongs to the Lower Hillsborough County Wilderness Preserve and covers nearly 5,500 acres. This outdoor space is the ideal escape from the concrete jungle offering trails, fishing, picnic areas and more.

The seven-mile loop road is ideal for joggers, in-line skaters, and bicyclists with several rest areas scattered along the trail offering cool water to quench the thirst. The park provides guests with the equipment they need to cook out in several shelters offering tables and barbecue grills. Public restrooms are available at the entrance located adjacent to Bruce B Downs Blvd and at the Visitor Center, which also offers picnic facilities and refreshing cold beverages. The park is dog friendly and open every day.

Lowery Park Zoo is just one of several attractions near New Tampa that caters to animal lovers. This zoo is ranked number one in the country by multiple parents' publications. Families can try out the thrill rides, splash around in fun water elements, feed the giraffes, and visit other fun interactive exhibits. More than 60 acres offer prime habitat for tigers, orangutans, koala bears, penguins, manatees, and a whole host of other native and exotic species.

The Florida Aquarium offers animal lovers another option with 250,000 square feet of exhibits. The Coral Reef Gallery allows visitors a chance to experience the wondrous sights of a 60-foot dive without even getting wet. Viewing windows offer glimpses into the various micro habitats that exist at different depths. Guests can attend a variety of educational and entertaining shows starring the aquarium's habitats or participate in one of the swim and dive experiences allowing them to jump in the water and interact with the fish.

Tampa is also home to Bok Tower Gardens, which is registered as a National Historic Landmark. Guests can tour Pinewood Estate, considered by many to be the finest representatives of early 20th century Mediterranean architecture. Guests can walk through the gardens to visit the art deco and neo-Gothic Singing Tower carillon and enjoy daily afternoon concerts.

For fun on the water, guests can hardly do better than playing captain at Speed Boat Adventures. Under the watchful eye of a veteran captain, guests have a chance to speed around Tampa Bay on a two-hour tour for a chance to view the city from a different angle while keeping an eye out for sea turtles, manatees, native birds, and dolphins.

Florida residents and visitors are never at a loss for entertaining things to do. Tampa's location offers easy access to amusement parks, zoos, wildlife preserves, and more. Regardless of age or personal interest, these attractions provide a fun way to spend the day.
