Important Search And Rescue Supplies And Tools

It is not uncommon for a search and rescue team to be called upon to find an injured or lost person in a remote area. They are typically the first to take action, and because of this, it is important that they are well equipped with the right tools. This first response action is often the key to bringing a person home safely.

Groups similar to CERT, or the Community Emergency Response Team, are typically the first group to start a search and rescue operation. These members are well trained and familiar with the relevant terrain in the area. Along these lines, it is also important that they are properly equipped with the important supplies that may be needed.

Reflective vests are a helpful part of the search and rescue supplies and tools. They are easily seen from a distance due to color and the reflective quality of the tape, trim and fabric. Other CERT members can easily locate each other. This vest is so highly visible that it is possible that the person being searched for will see the bright color and realize help is on its way. Other tools and supplies essential to a search and rescue operation include solar radios, flashlights and bullhorns. In fact, a bullhorn or megaphone that includes a siren is a great addition to any search and rescue operation as it enables the user to get a loud sound out and notify other rescuers when help is needed or the object of the search is found.

It is often the tactical preparation and equipment that will be the main factor in finding an individual in need and bringing them home safely to their family. Important factors that need to be considered are the type of terrain that will be encountered, as well as the weather conditions in the area. When the weather is rainy, the CERT team will need rain ponchos to keep everyone dry. Sometimes the temperatures drops, or a rescue mission can go on into the night. This circumstance can make solar blankets and sleeping bags important. Sometimes, unfortunately, the team may not be able to find the person in time. If the individual has passed away, the team may need a body bag in order to transport the person back into civilization. Flashlights are also an important piece of equipment, especially if the operation carries on into the night. Even better is high quality spotlights, which can offer a much better light source. Of course, first aid and trauma kits are also important for injured individuals.

In conclusion you will most likely be amazed at the tools you may already have like crow bars, hand tools, sled hammers, shovels, flashlights and the like that you can use in an emergency situation. Emergency planning and preparedness is for all.
