Fishing is a favorite past time activity among many people. This is because it is not expensive and is also great for the family as a whole. Besides, it is not physically engaging and is great for relaxation. If fishing has been a little boring of late then you have not been Red River catfishing. It is the ultimate challenge and experience.

Size and ability to fight characterize these fishes, hence it is not easy to find or catch them. They hold the world record for largest cats and do not have any rival world over. The average size for a normal cat is 15 pounds while the monsters can weigh anything above 40 pounds. The biggest blue ever caught was 143 pounds and 57 inches long.

Red river is 885km long with its source in North Dakota and draining into Winnipeg in Mannitoba. Catfish and Red River are almost synonyms. This is because this place is famous all over the world for its cats. Whenever anyone thinks about catfish, this River is the first and best option available. Some are located in the bottom while others are located in ponds. Others are also found in the holes of the river bank.

There are more than seventy species in this River. The species include among others Mooneye, Walleye, Channel and Northern Pike. Various types of baits are used to attract them including frogs, chicken livers and minnows. Baits are very important in catching cats, so you need to be really good at preparing them so as to catch these fishes.

A sinker is used to ensure that the bait stays at the bottom. Protect the knot from the sinker using a bead or surgical tubing. The barrel swivel allows turning for your bait in the current and minimizes the line twists. The hook is the last piece and size is dependent on the size of fish to be caught and the bait. The best time to catch catfishes is between midnight and 6am.

Catfish eat almost anything varying from plants, fish and fish eggs. They also seem to love worms as well as leeches. In adulthood, they are able to eat other bigger fishes. Cats also love dead matters hence are opportunistic feeders and they also love to feed at night time. They can be found along any part of the river; bottoms, depressions as well as ponds.

The sense of smell for cats is strong and employs whiskers in search of food. They love to feed in the night because their prey is dormant. They also have high adaptation to polluted water or low oxygen waters. Their sense of taste is as good their smell. The bait just needs to be close to the whiskers for them to feel food close. The sight of cats is top notch and can sense noise or vibrations.

When going fishing for cats, this is an exceptional and memorable experience. For the family, it is a time to bond and have fun. For corporations its a chance to make an impression to potential clients or investors. For whatever reason you go to fish, hire a boat and equipment instead of carrying your own.
