Keeping the kids amused in the summer holidays is hard going. Without braking the bank there are lots of fun and free to visit during the holidays which doesn't break the bank.

You can try and stay local for a week or two by doing so you will be surprised by how much there is too see and do on your own doorstep. Sometimes this is a good alternative to a two week vacation which lets face it is often stressful trying to arrange and keep everyone happy when you arrive.

Try and visit a few museums in your area. This would be idea as a day trip and they are vastly improved from when you were a small child. Not only are they opened during the day time they also may have some interesting exhibits on show.

Set a side a 2 week period during the summer months and get the children involved in exploring the city. They may even come up with ideas which you did not think about.

The bigger well known museums are great for planning trips in as they more often than not offer the patrons free parking into their place as way of attracting more visitors. They often have no entrance fees which saves you money as opposed to the smaller and less known establishments which due to funding will often charge for parking and entrance into the venue.

When arranging museum visits think about how the children will be entertained while you are there. Sometimes during the school holidays there are programmes running on a daily basis which will keep them amused while enjoying the museum at the same time.

Before you travel always check the times of opening for the museum you are heading too as this will prevent any disappointment upon arrival. There are also swimming pools and parks which offer summer programmes perhaps also music lessons in your area.

A good saving tip would be to pack all your snacks and lunch yourself that way you will not need to wait around in cafs ordering over priced food which the kids sometimes do not eat. Leaving you some extra cash to splash out on ice creams or ice lollies as a special treat for them being so understanding.
