It is that time of year again. Spring and summer are prime vacation seasons for many people. After working hard all year at jobs or school, most people are ready to get away for a few days and relax. There is something very refreshing about leaving home and being someplace where the usual responsibilities are not staring us in the face.

But it is also the time of year that crooks like as well, because they like to break into homes when the owners are away on vacation. Perhaps you yourself have second thoughts about going on vacation because you are not sure how to protect your home.

The good news is that you do not have to skip a vacation this summer in an effort to protect your home. You just need to know about a few smart tips that will help you avoid being the victim of a home invasion. You do not have to put all these tips into action, but the more you do, the better your protection will be.

One of the smartest things you can do to protect your home while you are gone is to install a home security system. These systems are very effective at preventing crime. Many criminals have said that if they knew that a home had a security system installed, they would not attempt to break into that home!

Lighting also affects how vulnerable your home is to being invaded. Did you know that security lights can protect your home? Crooks are afraid of being seen and caught. Installing lots of lights on the exterior and the interior of your home will make your home less likely to be chosen by a crook for invasion.

A house sitter is a great way to protect your home while you are relaxing on a vacation. Since empty homes are tempting to crooks, one way to scare them off is to make sure that your home does not appear empty. Have a friend live in your home while you are away!
