If you happen to be similar to me, then you probably grew up frying and eating everything prepared in a pot or frying pan sprayed with teflon. Many of the pans we buy are make like this today. They are coated with a teflon lining to keep our food from sticking to them. You need to be extremely cautious with these pans, and you shouldn't use wire utensils on these pans or the pans will become scratched. I'm positive you totally have experienced what I am speaking of.

Yet this was not consistently how things were. Men and women in the past cooked in pans made from cast iron. Teflon did not exist in the past, and they needed something dependable that would stay around a long time. Families needed to have something that was created one time, and used for anything. And for a lot of reasons, cast iron was the preferred choice.

These pans were extremely dependable and could take just about anything, from extreme heat to extreme cold, or even being dropped on the ground. Before modern technology people used these types of pans. Cast iron pans often lasted 30 years and were given down from relatives.

However somewhere during this time, a lot of people lost this affection for pans made out of cast iron. A type of pan a lot more time-saving showed up and people forgot about pans made out of cast iron. Now we make use of inexpensive skillets that are not well made, that can be washed easily. That's because cast iron requires a little extra effort. Although if you put in that extra extra work, the rewards are really worth it.

This doesn't mean that everyone has quit using these pans altogether. Personally I cook with cast iron pans all the time, and these pans are really beginning to stage a big resurgence. And that is because regular people have begun to see the positives.

Permit me to tell you a few of the attributes that make cooking with cast iron sweet:

Firstly, foods cooked in a pan that is made out of cast iron can really taste delicious. The food tastes so much more delicious than the things that you cook in a normal teflon pan. This pertains to what is commonly referred to as the seasoning. The seasoning is created from never washing with dish soap to the pans surface, and locking in the flavors that are created from the food you cook. The flavors remain closed up inside the pan, and over time begin to create rich, full bodied tastes in the food you cook.

Secondly, pans that are made out of cast iron are already stick free if you treat these pans the way that you should. The pans do not need to have teflon surfaces or any other unusual material to keep the food from getting stuck. The reason for this is because immediately after every single instance that you use the pan, you seal your cast iron pan with a very slight coating of cooking grease. This grease aids to seal in the seasoning and build a sweet non stick surface. After some time, the surface remains long lasting.

Last but not least, you are able to cook any type of food with pans made out of cast iron. You can saute vegetables on the burner, prepare meat, or even bake the pan in the oven. They are super resourceful. A lot of times I just put my cast iron pan right on the stove so that I'm able to cook with the pan anytime I have to.

As I said before, cooking with a cast iron pan has many pluses. I did not even mention all the benefits here. However if you could be considering purchasing a cast iron pan, I really think you should. These pans are a really good investment and will really enhance the way you cook. Besides, the pans will last a lifetime. I really hope that more and more chefs will get back to cooking with cast iron like they happened to do in the recent past.
