Tampa Bay is home to some of the world's top-rated beaches, creating a year-round haven for beach goers. Each beach possesses its own individuality, so you can choose your favorite by exploring each one. There are also more than 150 parks in the Tampa Bay area and that doesn't include the expensive amusement and theme parks. These free community parks have such features as ball fields, beaches, boat ramps, canoe launch, recreation centers, computer labs, food concessions, dog parks, fitness facilities, golf courses, grills, gyms, jogging paths, picnic spots, piers, sports courts, playgrounds, pools, restrooms, shelters, tennis courts and walking trails. Our community centers and playgrounds provide a safe, structured and fun environment. The City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department offers activities and classes for all ages: tots, youth, adults and seniors. Whatever your pastime, activity or outdoor interest may be, there is surely a park to indulge you.

Recreational fishing is a popular activity, because there is something about fishing that indoor or land-based sports can't match. Being on the water in a flats boat or on a deep-sea charter is a feeling that can't be equaled. Tampa Bay is Florida's largest open-water estuary. It is 400-square miles of fishing grounds, plus a watershed covering over 2,200-square miles. Whether you enjoy fishing from a pier, flats boat, inboard or outboard, bass boat, bay boat, offshore craft, skiff, scow or sloop you will love fishing Tampa Bay. And there are more than 200 species of fish in Tampa Bay hoping to avoid your hook.

As one of the nation's top animal parks, Busch Gardens Tampa has more than 2,700 animals and one of the best amusement parks that appeals to a variety of age groups. It's divided into eight different regions: Egypt contains a museum, shopping bazaars and Montu roller coaster; Timbuktu has the dolphin show, a German restaurant, the Myombe Reserve with gorillas and chimpanzees, and an entertainment center. The Serengeti Plain offers a safari through a 15-acre animal theme park. The Trans Veldt Railroad is a great way to sit back and view the scene. Morocco has shops, cafes and a 1,200-seat theater. There are special exhibits throughout the park, such as an animal nursery, bird garden and a rare white tigers' enclosure with up-close viewing.

Thrill rides are also a big draw, starting with Gwazi, the mammoth double wooden roller coaster that is the Southeast's largest and fastest of its kind. The Montu is one of the tallest and longest inverted roller coasters in the world. The Sheikra flies higher than any other roller coaster in the state (200 feet,) and plunges at 70-mph. Water rides include the Tanganyiki Tidal Wave, Stanley Falls and the Congo River Rapids. Land of the Dragons has kids' rides, an Enchanted Forest, and Lory Landing, where kids feed the nectar loving lorikeets. The Animal Adventure Tour features some of Busch Gardens most exotic animals and involves a walking safari with an off-road truck tour where you'll encounter hippos, giraffes, elephants, black rhinos and Clydesdale horses.
