The world of "All Things Key Lime." was witnessing a busy weekend. Kermit's pride was due to his participation in 3 different events on a weekend full of fun. The first thing was that Kermit's Key West Key Lime Shoppe was the proud sponsor of Scott Free Racing. Right outside Kermit's front door who won the third place in the 2012 World Championships in spite of ending the day early due to spinning out their boat. Hats off to Stephen and Steve!

Next, it was off to Disappearing Island in Ponce Inlet, FL for "Paddle Out Poverty" SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) and kayak races benefiting Entrust , an organization that mentors and trains entrepreneurs in developing countries as they break the cycle of poverty. Kermit's products were featured on the burgers and brats at the barbecue enjoyed by the many attendees and participants, and we're certain that the winner of the Kermit's Basket in the silent auction will be very pleased with their delicious reward! It is rumared that Entrust is already planning another paddling event in April... stay tuned!

And finally on Saturday, November 10th, at the Volusia County Fair and Youth expo, Kermit's Key Lime Pie Eating Contest was held. It was the first annual such contest and proved to be a thrilling sight for visitors and a challenge for those participating. There were only two rules to follow, no hands allowed and the first to finish wins the prize.

Over 20 years ago, while working as a bookkeeper for Papa's Restaurant in Key West, Kermit Carpenter started selling smoothies from a tiny stand in front of the restaurant. One night the head chef abruptly left and Kermit needed a new enterprise. While discussing his problem with his sister and brother in law, Anita and John, they all agreed that regardless of what they might do, it had to be of the highest quality and have Key West in the name. Gourmet food and key lime fit the bill, and out of this was born Kermit's Key West Key Lime Pie Shoppe.

When the Shoppe situated on the corner of Elizabeth and Greene began doing business, the price was reasonable but the site was in close proximity of a sewage pumping station. The brighter side of it was that its position was exactly on the bay in a Key West waterfront area. This area was to be developed in a very impressive way by the Key West city. Kermit along with Anita and John decided that the location could become really prominent if they could manage to carry on in the coming years.

Kermit and Anita were on their way to Maryland to pay a visit to their parents before the shop was opened for business. As they were driving, they compiled a list of things which was likely to have Key Lime as an ingredient. This list would be of immense help by supplying the blueprint for the purpose of gradually expanding Kermit's Key Lime product line.

In 2003 Kermit's was bursting at the seams. After his military career John became the Managing Director and the DeLand production facility and showroom were started due to the shipping charges to the growing customers and decreased costs of production. There is a Shoppe, warehouse and production kitchen in an area of 10,000 square feet in the DeLand location. The best part of it all is that they have good set of people who promote Kermit's business. Kermit has been relying on these good people for the past two years. They have been the key to the success of Kermit's Key West Key Lime Shoppe. From this location Kermit supports his retail and wholesale customers also supply orders received over the internet.

The possibility arose in 2011 of opening on Duval Street, which would let an additional number of Key West visitors experience Kermit's Key Lime treats. Kermit is in two Key West spots, so you'll always be near a Belgian chocolate dipped piece of key lime pie on a stick!
