The perception that people have of camping is boredom mixed with insect bites and camp food. This isn't correct. It can mean great food, good times and no bugs if preparations are made. Learn more about planning an enjoyable trip by reading on.

While it's not required, you should leave a bit of firewood for the future campers at your site. People may be behind schedule and not arrive in time to search for firewood within daylight hours. You don't have to leave any, but it's a nice gesture.

Make fire safety your top priority while camping. Learn how to handle fire safely. Create a safe fire ring. The fire may burn more than you intend, so keep water pails near. Be sure to act quickly and don't leave it unattended.

If you're camping with kids, try a "jungle breakfast". Take mini-boxes of cereal, juice boxes and fruit out into the woods, and tie them to the trees. Your children can then hunt these foods when they wake up. This is a wonderful way to add fun to their camping enjoyment.

Take your map of local trails everywhere with you. It can be easy to make a wrong turn and get lost while you are exploring nature. By having a map along, you'll be able to easily find your way to your campsite and stay out of danger.

Before you leave for a camping trip, discuss the trip with your doctor if you have medical conditions. Your trip may cause unforeseen complications for your condition. Just an ounce of prevention can stop a possibly harmful situation while camping.

One great suggestion for any camping trip is to pack a second utility knife. Utility knives have a variety of potential uses, so bring along an extra in your pack in case you drop or otherwise lose the knife you carry on your person.

When you are camping, clothing layers are ideal. Sometimes the weather changes unexpectedly. Even if it is chilling in the morning, it may end up steaming hot in the afternoon. It can turn chilly again in the evenings. You can adapt to the changing weather over the course of any day when you have multiple layers of clothing.

Be sure your insurance policy is up-to-date before leaving for your camping trip. Some policies will not cover you outside your own state. This is even more of a factor if you travel to another country to go camping, like Canada. Be sure that you prepare yourself in case anything happens!

While it may seem silly, make sure that you pack some toilet paper before you go camping. If there are no restrooms in your area, you will need to go out in nature. Wiping yourself with leaves is an uncomfortable task, especially in areas where poison ivy is common, so toilet paper is a must-have item.
